The reform enhances TSV’s visibility
The reform is based on the TSV strategy for 2024–2030, science policy guidelines and the need to develop online services and harmonise communications.
–The aim of the reform is to describe TSV’s strategic objectives and the impact its activities have in the scientific community and civil society. When the significance of science is called into questioned in various ways, it is increasingly important to communicate clearly and in concrete terms how important role TSV holds as a defender of the freedom of science and an actor in the scientific community, says Lea Ryynänen-Karjalainen, Executive Director of TSV.
Content previously located on different websites can now be found on the joint tsv.fi website. Content earlier published on the websites the Publication Forum, Responsible Assessment and Open Science are now part of the new website. In the future, the addresses julkaisufoorumi.fi and avointiede.fi will be redirected to these content sites.
On the new website, we will also provide more information on the impacts of TSV’s activities as well as on scientific societies and their societal significance.
–Scientific societies are a significant part of the scientific community and, for example, Finnish scientific publications. Scientific societies still have untapped societal resources, and it is important to invest in promoting their visibility, emphasises Ryynänen-Karjalainen.
A new visual identity combines history with present day
Not only the website but also TSV’s visual identity and logo were renewed. The look created in the TSV work community draws on the history of TSV and the architecture of the House of Science and Letters.
The visual identity reflects such matters as the shades of mint green and dark brown familiar from the House of Science and Letters as well as the building’s graphic details. The element framing the new logo can evoke images of a window or a book, for example. The visual identity was designed by TSV’s visual designer Anne Haapanen.
Next year, the new visual identity of TSV will also be applied to other TSV brands, such as Bookstore Tiedekirja.
Website development continues
The reform was prepared in collaboration with the TSV personnel. The website was also tested with partners before its launch. Its development will continue for the rest of 2026 and during 2027.
–User experiences are valuable and we will keep on collecting feedback after the launch to develop the website. The aim of the reform is to make the website and the look easy to use both for us and our target groups, says Head of Communications Anna Kotaviita.
A uniform visual identity and a renewed website make it easier to communicate about the work of social significance performed by TSV for the benefit of science.
–Clearer communications serve TSV members, the higher education and scientific community, experts in science administration, partners and an audience interested in science, says Kotaviita.
Exove Oy was responsible for the technical implementation of the website.
