The Steering Group has for example overseen the preparation of the Declaration for Open Science and Research and national policies on open access publishing, research data, education and research methods.
Responsibilities of the Steering Group
The Steering Group provides strategic direction for the national development of open science and research. It brings the research community together around shared objectives and ensures that openness is promoted consistently throughout Finland.
The Steering Group:
- prepares the research community's shared Declaration for Open Science and Research
approves national open science policies - monitors the development of open science in Finland
supports research organisations in committing to the promotion of openness - guides the activities of Open Science Coordination in Finland
Composition of the Steering Group
The current Steering Group's term of office ends at the end of 2026. The Steering Group's secretary general is Henriikka Mustajoki (TSV) and its secretary is Ilmari Jauhiainen (TSV).

The Steering Group is chaired by vice-rector Kaisa Miettinen (University of Jyväskylä), with Pekka Uotila, head of services (South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences) as vice-chair.
