Directory of Learned Societies (DoLS) welcomes the inclusion of all learned societies that promote specific academic disciplines, research areas, or professional groups within all fields of sciences and arts. The societies included in DoLS can be international, regional, national or local in their scope. Also umbrella organisations of societies are welcome.

To be eligible for DoLS, a society must already be registered in the Research Organization Registry (ROR). Due to the lack of a specific 'learned society' category within the ROR framework, societies should register under an applicable alternative category such as 'Other'.

Submission process:

1. Register society in ROR: ensure that the learned society is registered in the Research Organization Registry (ROR). If the society is not registered you can send in a request to be added using ROR Request form. Select the most relevant organisation category for the society, typically 'Other'.

2. Suggest addition of society to DoLS: fill in electronic DoLS submission form. Please provide the society’s ROR ID and list the names and ISSN(s) of the journals self-published or co-published by the society. Multiple ISSN entries are permissible if the society publishes more than one journal.

3. Verification of the submission: once the form is submitted, the information will undergo a verification process by the DoLS management committee to ensure it meets the registry’s scope.

This registration procedure is currently applicable only to the first version of the DoLS. Changes and enhancements to this process may be implemented as the registry evolves.
