About the directory

The Directory of Learned Societies (DoLS) provides an open, growing database of learned societies worldwide, facilitating visibility, networking, and community-building of scholarly associations. By integrating data such as organizational type, journal affiliations, and geographical information, the directory also facilitates discoverability of learned society journals and supports research on academic communities and their contribution to production, communication and impact of knowledge across arts and sciences.

The Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV) is an umbrella organisation of ca. 300 learned societies in Finland. TSV administers the DoLS, overseeing its development, maintenance, and stakeholder engagement. Management Committee (MC) at TSV takes care of the register’s accuracy and relevance. At a later stage, MC is to be supported by an advisory council composed of international experts and stakeholders.

The DoLS aims at compliance with the Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure (POSI). DoLS collaborates with related infrastructures and services, such as Research Organization Registry (RoR), to promote diversity, reliability and interoperability of open research information in the spirit of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information
